Calm Down

My family and friends have noticed that my stress level has been increased a great deal in the last few weeks. I have a big responsibility at my church coming up. It’s a Single Mother’s Appreciation Day. My friend and I share getting this ministry off the ground each year. It’s a lot of work to do and with the day approaching, it gets more stressful.

I had a migraine this week that lasted for two days. I know it was related to the stress I put on myself. Instead of accepting that things get a bit frazzled now, I began to worry. That same day that I felt like I was going to explode because I got a late start to my day and thought of all I didn’t do, I got the migraine. See how it works?

When I told Darlene, my friend about what happened we decided that we need to call each other when things are feeling like they’re piling up on us. We can talk about it, spend some time together relaxing with some iced tea on the patio furniture at another friend’s house and re-focus.

I’m still working on giving my worries and problems over to God as he is the one in control.

  1. There is a wonderful book by Andrew Murray called ‘Waiting on God’….I know that it would bless you…it’s a small devotional book that he wrote for farmers in South Africa in the early 1900′s….I have read it and re-read it 3 or 4 times…now, because it is a book that keeps on giving, I read it pretty much a sentence at a time…sorry about the migraine…I get them on ocassion as well…it’s all about trusting the Lord and He LOVES it when we wait on Him!!!!
    take good care…blessings…

  2. You’re way ahead of the curve if you know the triggers for the migraine. The big question is if you have this information, what are you going to do with it.

Stress is obviously something to be avoided. The truth is we are all going to have stress forever, so how do we prevent it from infiltrating our lives? We have to find ways like the iced tea on the patio to avoid the impact of the stress.

I’m a firm believer in having a spiritual practice. In the past year I’ve turned knitting into a spiritual practice and it has helped keep me grounded and present so stress can wash over me and disappear.

  3. @ lilley, thanks for the info on the book. I’ll be looking out for it. I know God loves me and wants me to wait on him. I just need to give up my control, silly me!

@ Greg, I’m working on preventing stress by recognizing when I worry and then leaving it to God to handle.

  4. A little stress is usually good for people, but it’s really bad for us… I know first-hand.
