I guess I’m nearing that time of life when I can be doing nothing at all, sitting in an air conditioned room when all of a sudden I’m dripping with sweat and feel like I’m in the middle of a furnace. Yes, early menopause, along with hot flashes, mood swings and other unmentionable female issues.
Night time is the absolute worst. I’m drenched half the time and have to change pajamas in the middle of the night. I already have trouble sleeping because of the chronic pain I have so this is just added reason to mess up my sleep. But who’s complaining?
The moodiness is unreal. I’m happy and laughing one second and then I’m snapping my husband’s head off the next. I did talk to my doctor about this because I thought I was losing it for sure, but after doing an assessment, he assured me that I’m as semi-normal as I was before.
As for the hot flashes besides not wearing flannel pajamas and keeping the blankets off, at night, dressing in layers so I can remove a light jacket over my shirt, and avoiding heavy clothing especially UGG boots and leather jackets can help me handle them a little better. I really can’t take any supplements or prescription medications unless things get totally out of hand.
I’m just learning to deal with it. So if you see a half dressed woman, with a battery powered fan in the freezer section of Publix, mumbling to herself about how hot it is, cut her some slack, k?

I received this call for people with chronic illnesses to take part in a survey for a study being done by Purdue University. The study is to learn more about how we use online sites such as blogs and forums to help us cope with our health issues. I contacted Justin Gold, the research assistant working with this survey and he has provided his email for others with questions below. Please read the following about this survey.
My name is Justin Guild and I’m a graduate research assistant currently working with Dr. Jeong-Nam Kim at Purdue University on a health communication study.
Specifically, our research explores how information sharing behavior through online communities (such as blogs) influences coping strategies among people with chronic conditions including cancer, diabetes, depression, etc.
I’m contacting you to seek permission to place a link to our online web survey on your blog to invite readers and other visitors to participate. The survey is purely academic in nature and takes no longer than 5-7 minutes to complete.
The survey is available online.
In the survey, we use the term “blog” to refer to any online activity where you might read or share information in communities such as personal web logs, internet forums, and discussion boards.
The findings of this study could lead to better management capacities of chronic diseases as well as an increase in funding for research related to online communities.
If you have any questions, or would like additional information, please don’t hesitate to contact me at jguild@purdue.edu.

Going to the doctor is a necessary evil when you have multiple chronic illnesses. Going to multiple doctors is more like it. Taking multiple prescriptions and medical tests while seeking multiple treatments is a huge part of my life. Thank goodness I didn’t have a multiple birth.
Seriously, I feel like I need drug treatment. I’m taking one of my prescriptions every three hours and it’s increased from one pill to one and a half. That’s for the Myasthenia Gravis.
I’m also taking 2 instead of one pill for Gittleman’s Syndrome and that’s twice a day. Those pills taste nasty. I need to have something close by to eat that’s sweet or salty to get rid of the aftertaste or it sticks with me all day.
If I forget to take the Mestinon, which is for the Myasthenia Gravis, I start to feel very weak. It hits me around my forehead, my eyelids and then the rest of my facial muscles. Then I slowly start to feel weak throughout my body. Today I was only a half an hour late but did I feel it.
It’s sort of like what people feel like when they are addicted to drugs and then stop. They go through withdrawal and don’t feel well. I can relate to people in drug rehab. It must be awful for them.
But for me, I can’t stop taking my meds or I can get seriously, critically ill.
When I began blogging in April of 2007 I had one blog, Brain Foggles. I then won a blog contest run by my now friend Jenn at Everyday Randomness. The prize was a blog package, a domain and a years worth of hosting, which became this blog. Recently I started another blog of my own about one of my most favorite things ever, everything Disney, called Mickey FANAtic. You can find all of these blogs on my blogroll.
Add to these three blogs, I’ve been asked to contribute to three other blogs too. I’ve been blogging at doWAHdiddy, which is a work at home blog, since March of this year. Recently I started writing at Mommy Matter, a Mom blog. And in just the past few weeks I’ve been writing for Blissfully Domestic. My first post was published on September 12th about frugal eating at Disney. Again these blogs are on my blogroll.
For those of you who are just beginning to blog you may be wondering why do I write on other blogs. I get more experience writing and meeting deadlines. I get more exposure too. I have my own blogs listed along with my tag line on my posts. So don’t be afraid to write elsewhere. In fact, do it.

I’ve started taking my camera with me where ever I go. It fits nicely into my purse and it’s not heavy. I’ve been taking photos more often and finding that it’s another way for me to use my creativity and reduce stress.
I’m learning slowly how to use my camera the correct way. There’s stil some setttings I don’t know how to use yet. But in time it will come. I can’t figure out how to take photos at night or action photos. The instruction booklet is more of a book so it’s a one day at a time thing.
I’ll be needing a micro sd or maybe two since I go take so many photos trying to get the settings just right.
The good thing is I’m not getting upset over not understanding instead I’m enjoying myself. I may be taking lots of photos but as I do I’m learning from my mistakes. I have some pretty good photos to boot!
