I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. I'm very lucky that I have a low tolerance for pain meds, so a little bit goes a long way. I can make due most of the time with extra strength tylenol, which is good because I can't take aspirin or ibuprofen due to stomach problems. I prefer not to take narcotic pain relief simply because it has such a negative impact on my digestive system. I've used it a couple of times when things were really bad, and try to avoid it if I can.

I know so many people with FMS who need to take narcotics. They are absolutely necessary for them to function. It's sad that they have to jump through so many hoops to get necessary pain control.

Life in pain is a terrible way to live. People who have never had to deal with chronic debilitating pain do not understand what it's like to live like this.

And I agree, being on narcotic meds all the time is no way to live either.
Once i'm healed from this most recent surgery, I'm going to ask about the pain implant machine.
It's attached to the pain receptors in your spinal column, and runs around to the stomach.
It is something that has to be surgically installed, but I hear it works really well once the patient and the doctor find a setting on the device that works for the patient.

I'll give it a try because I don't want to spend my life on narcotics, but I know that I cannot live with, cope with, the amount of pain that I deal with on a daily basis.
There are days that it has me curled up in bed and unable to move at all.

My wish is to be pain and drug free someday.
