The Weather and Fibro

Does the weather affect how you feel if you have fibromyalgia? Can you tell if it’s going to rain a few days in advance without watching the weather on the news? Do you feel more achy if it’s cold? What about if you have arthritis?

If this a problem for you, what do you do to feel better besides taking medicine? Have you tried any kind of salves or creams? Do you use a heating pad or an electric blanket?

I like to use the rice filled heating pads that you put in the microwave. They ease a lot of the muscular pain I feel when I’m cold or when the weather is damp. It also helps me when I’m just in pain even without the weather being out of whack.

  1. Fibromyalgia.Another entry for my vocabulary. So far, I haven’t experienced it. ‘Cause I really enjoy watching every raindrop fell to the ground.

  2. Oh yes! Not only fibro, but CFS, Gastroparesis, neurological conditions, a benign tumor condition, pressure headaches, all worsen for me with barometric pressure changes. It is so frustrating because we can’t contol the weather.

Other than medicines that help relieve symptoms, I try to surrender to it and lay low.

I hope someday soon that research will be done that helps us understand the effects of barametric pressure so we can find relief.

  3. I do seem to hurt more in certain temps and with weather changes. I’ve actually been thinking about keeping a health journal (aka blog) dedicated just to tracking health issues. Finding myself doubting it would be read, in which case I could just write it down.

  4. Used to hurt like a banshee when the weather changed and fronts moved in and out of town. Oh, I remember the pain from severe cases of Fibro & CFS!

  5. I hope that you never have to experience Fibro and the pain involved.

  6. Ah Kerry, those are the words I was trying to grasp for, barometric pressure! That would make for an excellent medical study.

  7. Val, either way you do it, a blog or a journal of your own, it can be helpful for you and your doctor to know what triggers your pain and other symptoms.
